Termites
Termites are insects that a homeowner never wants to see. These little insects can do a lot of damage to your home over time. It is important that you have your home inspected for termites every year. If you have you home inspected every year, you are less likely to have major damage to your home. An inspection is a lot more affordable than having to repair the damage that a colony of termites can cause over time.
Termites eat very slowly so if you find that your home maybe infested with them you don’t have to panic. You will have time to find a reputable exterminator to take care of your termite problem. Most people will have to hire out help for a termite problem because they are not familiar with the pesticides that are used for treating an infestation.
There are steps that you can take to help prevent termites from nesting in your home. One of the fist things that should be done is to remove the possibility of any standing water near the foundation of your home. Termites need water to build the nest that they create. Some of the warning signs that you may have termites are mud logs. If you are finding these mud logs along crack around the wood of your home, it would be in your best interest to schedule an inspection. The sooner you find the infestation the quicker they can be treated and the less damage you will have to your home.

Having seen a lot of home in Palo Alto, California with termite damage, I can say that anyone living in a high termite zone should get regular inspections.
Also, not all termites need an external source of water, aerial termites will get their water from sources in the house. It is the subterranean termites that will build a mud tube to the soil for their water needs.

Termites can cause a lot of problems. Do get an inspection, but if the termites have caused damage, don’t think it can’t be fixed. Most every problem with your home can be taken care of.
