Trimming Trees and Bushes
The outside of your home is just as important as the inside. You want to take care of the property that your home is on. Taking care of your property by trimming trees and bushes regularly can help prevent damage to your home. A bush or trees that are not properly trimmed can cause a lot of damage. An untrimmed tree may lose branches during a severe storm causing roof damage. It is common for bushes that are not trimmed to break windows during severe storms as well.
This is a good time of year to take a good look at all of the trees and bushes that may be on your property. Trees and bushes often need to be trimmed back to prevent damage to nearby structures. Bushes, especially, can look really bad if they are over grown. Trimming the trees around your property can really change the way your home looks. A home can look really run down if you have too many trees or bushes that are taking over.
A good place to start is at lowest branch of the tree. You want your trees to look tall and straight. If you have a tree that is start to look more like a bush then you should trim off the bottom branches. This will give the tree a whole new look. Also, if you have a fence line where trees like to grow then it would be best just to remove them all together. They will eventually tear up your fence. A tree should be planted at least a foot from the fence line to prevent it from growing through the fence. You do not want to have to replace your fence because this can be a costly repair.
Trimming back your bushes is a little easier. Most bushes are short and round or square in appearance. If you are not sure about the way your bushes should be then you may want to look up that particular bush. This way you will get the correct look of your bush.

Pussy willow – When should I trim? How tall should I allow it to get? When I trim how much should I trim? My willow is 10 feet tall with lots of new grow around the base. It looks like many trees have come up from the root.
Honeysuckle – I would like to know the same things I have asked for the pussy willow, but new growth has not come from its’ base. It is now 10+ feet. My wife wants me to cut it down to about 4-5 feet tall. What do you say? Thank you so much for your response.
