Driveway Repairs
Repairing your driveway is a fairly easy project. This is one that you can do yourself, and it will not take just a whole lot of time to complete. There are several important steps that you need to take before you start your project. You will want to make sure that the area that you will be working on is clean of all residues or build up.
You will want to remove all debris from the cracks in the concrete that you are planning on repairing. A broom or brush should be enough to remove the debris. As you are preparing the crack to be filled, you will most likely need to make the crack slightly larger. Using a small chisel will allow you to cut away the needed amount. It is common to use what is called an undercut when removing the excess concrete. Undercutting is where you make the bottom of the crack larger than the top. By doing this, it allows for the filler to not be pushed out of the crack during temperature changes.
Once you have completed preparing the driveway for the repairs, you are ready to begin the process of filling in the cracks. Mix vinyl concrete filler with water as recommended. Fill the crack only a ΒΌ at a time so that all the layers will dry correctly. Once all layers are dried, you will use a steel trowel, a broom, and a wood float to finish and texture the surface to match the rest of the driveway. The steel trowel will give you the smoothest surface. Using a swirling motion during this step will give you the best results.
