Money for Home Repairs

Thursday, July 23rd, 2009

If you are in need of money for a home repair, then you should check into a government grant. There is not need to go to the bank for a high interest loan when you might qualify to receive a grant that has been especially made for home repairs by homeowners. This is a great program to at least check out to see if you qualify. The worst that could happen is that you do not get the money, but you will not be any worse off then you were beforehand.

The government in the past has offered over a trillion dollars in these grants. These grants are the most common grants awarded every year. It was said that the average home across America was awarded four thousand dollars of grant money. The great thing about these grants is that there are no credit checks, so you cannot be denied because of a bad credit report. Banks will always check your credit and debt to income ratio, but with the grant you only have to apply and prove that you are a homeowner doing repairs to your home.

The money for these grants comes from private companies that will often pay around five percent of their profits to stay within the same tax brackets. This helps not only the private companies, but homes across America. The best thing about this grant is that you don’t have to pay it back.

Repairing a Hole in Your Wall

Friday, April 3rd, 2009

Repairing a hole in your wall may sound like a difficult task, but it can really be simple depending on the size of the hole. The smaller the whole the easier the job will be, but you should still be able to repair the wall yourself if you follow a few simple instructions. You will also need to have the necessary tools for the job.

The tools and materials that you need for the job will consist of a utility knife, putty knife, drywall, compound, drywall tape, drywall screws, medium to fine grit sand paper, and soft bristle brush. Once you have all the material that you need to finish the project just follow these simple steps.

1. Clean the area around the hole in the wall. You will want to remove any debris that might still be attached to the wall. You will want to use the soft bristle brush and the sand paper. This will give you cleaner area to work with.
2. After you have removed all debris, you will want to use the utility knife to cut a hole in a symmetrical square slightly larger than the damaged area. Use a straightedge so that you have a straight line to follow. Remove material and debris from the wall.
3. The next step is to cut a new piece of drywall. You will want to cut this piece to be slightly small than the area needing repair.
4. Place the new piece in to the hole that you have created. You will want to tack into place with drywall screws.
5. Next you will need to cut strips of drywall tape and tape around the edges of the repaired hole.
6. You will need the compound next. You will spread a thin layer of the compound over the patch and the tape. You will want to extend about six inches past the repaired area.
7. Once the compound has dried, you will need to use the sand paper to smooth out the compound. Once you have removed all debris, you are ready to paint over the patch in the wall.
