Removing Paint from Your Windows

Sunday, July 19th, 2009

Removing paint from your window can be a long a daunting task if you did not remember to tape them off. The best thing that you can do when you paint is to tape everything that you do not want paint to get on. It may be a little time consuming project before you even get started, but it is really helpful in the end.

Paint can be somewhat difficult to remove from windows and their frames especially if you did not remember to tape them off. Removing the paint off the window itself may not be that difficult but the window seal is a different story. On a window, you can just use a dull putty knife to gently remove the paint, but using a putty knife on the window seals may be disastrous.

You can really damage the wood around the windows if you do not take the time to tape off first. The tape will keep you from getting any paint on the wood, but will allow you to get into the deep corners or pockets that are around most windows. You also do not want to use any kind of corrosive chemicals to remove the paint as this will remove the finish that was put on the window seal.

The best thing that you can to remove paint from wood is to use a water based solvent that is made for removing paint off of wood. You do not want to use anything that is not water based as these will most likely ruin the finish. It is best if you have this on hand to use right away. It is no recommended to use a putty knife or corrosive chemicals that are not water based on your wood finishes.
